State of Knowledge on the Security Phenomenon in Algeria

Project type : Institutional Projects (PE)
Theme : Public Health and Society

Research problem

The project is innovative. It is an exploratory study aimed at inventorying, classifying, and organizing all knowledge related to the security phenomenon or public security, in its broadest sense, in Algeria. The goal is to provide a starting point for numerous research axes on the security phenomenon and its consequences, particularly on social systems, societal structures, and cultural patterns in Algerian society.

The project aims to conduct a comprehensive survey of all writings, publications, scientific and academic practices, as well as media outputs related to the security phenomenon in Algeria, whether they address it directly or indirectly. This includes works using direct security terminology or terms and concepts indirectly related to public security and the security phenomenon.

The research scope includes:

Scientific publications: books, articles in national specialized or multidisciplinary journals, graduate theses, and post-graduate dissertations across all fields according to the official classification of academic disciplines in Algeria.Research practices: scientific conferences, study days, national and international seminars organized by research institutions in Algeria, as well as national research projects.Media coverage: analysis of how the security phenomenon is addressed in print media, online platforms, and social media networks.

At the conclusion of the project, we will have a clear mapping of the actual scientific approaches to the security phenomenon, as well as the areas that have been underexplored or insufficiently understood. These results will provide the basis for many subsequent exploratory and descriptive studies on the security phenomenon in Algeria, following a comprehensive and modern integrative approach. This approach aims to achieve a high level of understanding across the various dimensions of public security, including intellectual, social, and environmental security, and ultimately the overall system that all nations strive to comprehend, control, or at least anticipate its changes.

This underscores the importance of scientific study of the security domain, which has always been and remains a key determinant of social reality, structuring the relationships within social systems, the specific organization of societal structures, and influencing the roles and social functions that shape contemporary life.

Long-term objectives:

To guide scientific research toward high-priority security topics that have not yet been addressed. To provide different security services with research summaries that can inform security planning. To create a network of researchers working on security studies, involving both researchers and various security agencies such as the gendarmerie and police.
