Summary

Since independence, the Algerian school has undergone many changes, including the reforms of 1962-1970 that initiated the designing of textbooks and reforms of 1980-1990 that witnessed the establishment of what was known as the fundamental school. In 1991, there was a debate on bringing change to the curriculum; some changes were made between 1996-1998. The modifications continued until 2003 when the new reforms brought out the so-called competency based approach (CBA).
Within the contents to be taught, in all levels, there are subjects that belong to social sciences and humanities such as history, geography, civic education, Islamic education, etc. which are directly related to the national identity and to the formation of the Algerian pupil personality.
In view of the importance of these subjects in terms of shaping the personality of the Algerian pupil and the controversies that they arise at the cognitive and pedagogic levels, this project questions the way in which these sciences are present in textbooks from independence to the present day.
