Research problem

This involves taking into account certain data relating to the predominance in the Algerian space of cultural goods originating from transnational cultural industries, the circulation of productions and aesthetic references between different cultural fields, and the emergence of new media as supports for certain artistic expressions (satellite channels dedicated to music, cinema and entertainment, websites and internet platforms, etc.).

This observation encourages us to study the conditions of production and reception of works and their impact on artistic socialisation processes, both collective and individual. This work should be accompanied by the development of analytical frameworks based on a critical examination of conceptual tools: cultural fields, institutions, interculturality, hybridity, postcoloniality, centre and periphery, and questions of artistic genres and forms.

We also propose to reflect on the correlations between the development of cultural fields and other sectors with which they may be connected: the educational system, tourism, cultural industries, communication and media, from both an economic perspective and one of openness to innovation (advertising communication, for example, while based on marketing techniques, both borrows from and influences artistic systems). In addition to the necessity of establishing an overview of the fields under consideration, this research will combine essential multidisciplinary approaches (history, sociology, anthropology, aesthetics, etc.) with open reflection on theoretical issues and their practical implications (particularly everything related to redefining the status of artists, heritage questions and related rights, and the identification of new cultural project management methods). Attention will be given to diachronic processes and to the transformations affecting works, practices and actors.Certain axes may be prioritised: those concerning the role of cultural representations in the behaviour of certain social or professional categories such as youth, women, elites, migrants, and children; and those related to artistic worlds: professions, networks, circulation patterns and codes. Some thematic issues may also be examined periodically: cultural fields and politics, cultural fields and urbanisation, cultural fields and sustainable development.
